A 29-year-old man from Prince Albert faces several charges after allegedly fleeing from police and pointing a knife at a police officer on Wednesday.
On Wednesday, Saskatchewan RCMP with Combined Traffic Services Saskatchewan was patrolling in the Prince Albert area. They observed a vehicle driving more then 150 km.hr on Highway 3, east of Prince Albert, activated their emergency lights and attempted a traffic stop. The vehicle did not stop and continued to drive in an erratic manner.
The officer located the vehicle in the city of Prince Albert. He observed the vehicle disobeying traffic signs and speeding through residential areas. The vehicle later became disabled and the officer approached it. Police say the driver would not comply with police commands, exited the vehicle and pointed a knife toward the officer.
The officer deployed a conducted energy device and the male was arrested.
The officer seized a spring-loaded switchblade-style knife and a small bag of methamphetamine after his arrest.
As a result of continued investigation, 29-year-old Austin Lafond of Prince Albert is facing numerous charges including one count of assaulting a police officer with a weapon, one count of operating a conveyance in a manner dangerous to the public and one count of resisting arrest.
He appeared in Prince Albert Provincial Court on Thursday
