More than 900,000 elementary, intermediate and high school students participated in Student Vote Canada, coinciding with the 2025 federal election.
In Saskatchewan, 26,301 students cast ballots from 278 schools throughout the province. While the Student Vote seat count almost directly reflects the projected election results, the popular Student Vote was a lot more varied.
Receiving 12,199 votes and 48.25 per cent of the vote Conservatives won 12 seats, the Liberals received 5,510 votes or 29 per cent of the vote and would have won seats in Regina-Lewvan and Desnethe-Missinippi-Churchill River which closely resembled the actual results.
As part of the mock vote, students took on the roles of election officials and coordinate the voting process for their peers. CIVIX is the organization that oversees the election.
After learning about democracy and elections, researching the parties and platforms, and debating the future of the country, students cast their ballots for the official candidates running in their school’s electoral district.
As of 7:30 pm ET on Monday, 870,340 valid votes were reported from 5,900 schools, with results from all 343 electoral districts. There were also 30,453 rejected ballots.
In Canada students elected a Conservative Party minority government, with the Liberal Party forming the official opposition.
The Conservative Party won 165 seats and 36.4% of the popular vote, forming a minority government. Pierre Poilievre won in the riding of Carleton, ON. The Liberal Party won 145 seats and 31.7% of the popular vote, forming the official opposition. Mark Carney won in the riding of Nepean, ON. The Bloc Québecois won 18 seats and 2.1% of the popular vote. Yves-François Blanchet won in the riding of Beloeil—Chambly, QC. The NDP won 13 seats and 14.5% of the popular vote. Jagmeet Singh lost in the riding of Burnaby South, BC. The Green Party won 2 seats and 7.5% of the popular vote. Jonathan Pedneault lost in the riding of Outremont, QC, and Elizabeth May won in Saanich—Gulf Islands.
Schools participating in Prince Albert include Carlton, Wesmor, St. Michael Community School, Ecole Valois, North View Adult Learning Centre, Holy Cross School, Ecole St. Anne School, King George Community School, Prince Albert Collegiate Institute, St. John Community School, Osborne School, St. Catherine Catholic School and Red Wing School.
