The St. Mary Marauders are enjoying their home court advantage thus far at the SHSAA 5A boys’ volleyball championship in Prince Albert.
Although they fell in straight sets to the Saskatoon Holy Cross Crusaders Friday night, the Marauders have a 2-1 record and are tied for second place in Pool A play with the Balgonie Greenall Griffins as they gear up for their final round-robin contest at 11:15 a.m. Saturday against the Regina Riffel Royals at Saskatchewan Polytechnic.
Playing in front of their fans at the St. Mary gym, the Marauders started off the tournament with a straight set win over the Griffins and followed that up with a three set win over the Yorkton Raiders later in the afternoon.
The Crusaders lead Pool A with a 3-0 mark, while the Royals currently hold down fourth place with a 0-2 mark.
The Raiders are 0-3 heading into their last round-robin match with the Royals Saturday morning.
Meanwhile in Pool B, which saw all of their games take place at Sask Poly Friday before moving over to St. Mary’s gym Saturday, the defending provincial champion Swift Current Colts lead the way with a 3-0 record.
The Regina LeBoldus Golden Suns and the Meadow Lake Carpenter Spartans both have 2-1 marks, while the Lloydminster Barons (0-2) and the Saskatoon Centennial Chargers (0-3) round out the standings.
The playoffs will get underway at both gyms at 12:45 p.m.
St. Mary will play host to the bronze medal game at 4:45 p.m., with the gold medal match getting underway at 5:45 p.m.
