Art exhibit showcases the lights and colours of streetscapes and landscapes

In Christina Thoen’s latest exhibit, the local artist is bringing together the light, colour and energy of the urban and natural worlds.

She’s says it’s a combination that has always attracted her.

“I grew up on a farm, so I’ve always really appreciated that. But then I always loved to go to the city because that was super fun, just a different thing… We’d drive into Saskatoon and come over the hill and see all the lights at night and how exciting that is,” Thoen said.

“I don’t think I could ever live with one or the other, you just need that balance.”

Thoen explores that balance in show Love, Life and Lights, which opened at Amy’s on Second earlier in the spring and continues until May. 28. She said it was about a year ago that she started working on a series of pieces that emphasized colour and light.

The exhibit juxtaposes scenes of nighttime streetscapes with images of flowers, forests and vibrant skies.
