MELFORT — Melfort Fire and Rescue responded to a structure fire on Maple Street at 12:52 p.m. Feb. 18, 2026.

Fire Chief and emergency measures co-ordinator Leonard Whitney told SaskToday the roof was compromised and the house is believed to be a total loss.

Melfort Fire and Rescue posted on social media, “On arrival, crews found thick smoke coming from the home’s eaves. All occupants had exited safely. Firefighters entered the building and attacked the fire directly.”

Sixteen firefighters responded with five apparatus. The cause of the fire was a pot left on the stove, according to Whitney.

Whitney said the department has responded to 12 calls so far this year, including two structure fires within the City of Melfort. Crews also provided mutual aid to Star City, where two homes were lost in late January.

Melfort Fire and Rescue thanked its partners — the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, SaskEnergy, SaskPower and City of Melfort workers — for their assistance at the scene.
