Brooke Hobson scores first international goal; wins silver with Team Canada

Brooke Hobson is used to hearing crowds chant “go Canada go” during sporting events, but last week, for the first time, those same crowds were directing that familiar chant towards her.

“During every period you can hear the ‘go Canada go’ chant going and I think that was one of the coolest experiences for me because when the Olympics are on you can hear that in the crowd and that kind of just makes your heart pound a little harder,” she said.

Hobson, five-year veteran defenceman of the P.A. Northern Bears of the SFMAAAHL, just returned home from the Czech Republic following a silver-medal performance with Team Canada at the 2017 International Ice Hockey Federation U18 World Women’s Championship.

It was the first time the 17-year-old P.A. product competed overseas for her country. Hobson said she was happy with her performance, adding that, “Playing with the best players in the world definitely helped me grow as a player.”
