Sherwood Division teams return to the ice after Showcase break

SJHL teams returned to the ice last weekend following the Western All-Star Showcase with the Melfort Mustangs, Nipawin Hawks and La Ronge Ice Wolves all in action.

The Western All-Star Showcase took place from Nov. 4-6 in Warman, the only player from a local SJHL team to make the roster for the SJHL was forward Will Whitter from the Hawks.

As of Nov. 11 the Mustangs are in first place in the Sherwood Division with a record of 11-4-0-0 with 22 points, the Ice Wolve are in second place with a record of 9-10-1-0 with 19 points, two points ahead of the Flin Flon Bombers and the Hawks are in fourth place with a record of 2-12-1-0 with five points.

The Mustangs returned to the ice with a 6-2 loss to the Bombers in Flin Flon on Friday, Nov. 8.

The Bombers led 2-0 after the first period and 6-1 after the second. Reilley Kotai and Rylan Ringor scored for the Mustangs.

Former Raider Carter Anderson had a pair of goals for Flin Flon; Rhett Ewen, Anthony Piccininno, Reid Arberry and Ryder Ringor added the other Bombers’ goals.

Kristian Coombs made 10 saves in just over 24 minutes for the Mustangs before he was replaced by Madden Mulawka who made 10 saves. Matthew Kieper made 23 saves for the Bombers.

The Estevan Bruins were in Melfort to play the Mustangs on Wednesday, Nov. 13, results were not available.

The Hawks returned to the ice with a 5-2 loss to the Bombers in Nipawin on Saturday, Nov. 9. Nipawin led 1-0 after the first period and trailed 3-2 after the second period.

Finley Radloff and former Bomber Conor Ryan scored for the Hawks. Carter Cormier had a pair of goals for the Bombers; Luke Lepper, Anderson and Arbery added the other Flin Flon goals.

Nathan Claydon made 23 saves for the Hawks; Kenneth Marquart made 22 saves for Flin Flon.

The Ice Wolves closed out their two game homestand against the Notre Dame Hounds with a 5-2 loss to the Hounds on Saturday, Nov. 9 in La Ronge.

David Vitt and Luke Rheinhart scored for the Ice Wolves. Damian Mestasasio, Liam Hunks, Marko Djordjevic, Pherson Loehndorf and DJ Freigang responded for the Hounds.

Logan Falk made 27 saves for the Ice Wolves; Spencer Borsos made 33 saves for the Hounds.

The Ice Wolves returned to the ice with a 3-1 win over the Notre Dame Hounds in La Ronge on Friday, Nov. 8 to begin a two-game homestand. The game was scoreless after one period and tied 1-1 after two periods.

Taite Donkin had a pair of goals for La Ronge with Mason Bueckert adding the other Ice Wolves goal. Nick Beatty scored the lone goal for the Hounds.

Falk made 22 saves for La Ronge; Borsos made 38 saves for the Hounds.

The Hawks and Mustangs renew their rivalry for the second time this season on Friday, Nov. 15 when the Hawks are in Melfort.

The Estevan Bruins are in La Ronge to face the Ice Wolves on Friday, Nov. 15 and Saturday, Nov. 16.

The Hawks travel to Humboldt to face the Broncos on Saturday, Nov. 16.

The Notre Dame Hounds are in Melfort to play the Mustangs on Saturday, Nov. 16.
