SaskEnergy dealing with pipeline rupture, service issues near Melfort

SaskEnergy is continuing to deal with a leak and outage in the Melfort area.

A pressure drop in Melfort, Kinistino, St. Brieux and surrounding areas was determined to have been caused by a high transmission pipeline rupture between Weldon and Birch Hills.

Crews have been dispatched and repairs are expected to continue into the evening and be completed overnight.

The agency is working door-to-door in affected areas to restore natural gas service to about 4,500 affected customers. More than 40 technicians are in communities, and wil be working through the night to safely relight and restart appliances.

Where homeowners aren’t present, SaskEnergy will work with the RCMP, using the services of a locksmith, to enter properties to restore service and prevent damage from frozen pipes.

According to a spokesperson, there is no indications yet as to what caused the rupture. With 4,500 customers affected, it is SaskEnergy’s largest outage to date.

Anyone who has no service should call SaskEnergy at 1-888-700-0427.
