A 17-year-old male youth who was originally arrested at the scene when a 16-year-old girl was shot and killed in November has been arrested again on outstanding warrants for second degree murder.
Saskatoon police arrested the youth during a traffic stop on Feb. 28. He is charged with second degree murder in relation to the death of 16-year-old Rhianna Cook.
The youth made his first court appearance in Saskatoon on Monday to face Saskatoon Police Service charges. He has been remanded to appear in Prince Albert Provincial Court on Wednesday, March 4 at 10 a.m.
Cook was shot at a residence in the 900 block of 12th Street East in Prince Albert on Nov. 27, 2025. The Prince Albert police were called to the scene at around 8:22 a.m. following reports of a gunshot.
They arrived to find Cook suffering from life-threatening injuries. Parkland Ambulance paramedics arrived on scene and pronounced her deceased shortly after.
In a press release sent out Nov. 25, the Prince Albert Police Service said they had arrested a 17-year-old male they found inside the residence upon arrival. At the time, police said the youth remained in custody as the investigation continues.
On Monday, the PAPS confirmed the youth arrested by the Saskatoon Police Service was the same one originally arrested the day of Cook’s death.
The Prince Albert Police Service Major Crimes Unit continues to investigate the case. Anyone with information is asked to contact investigators at 306-953-4222.
