Saskatoon man accused of ramming Melfort RCMP police vehicles makes first court appearance

A 45-year-old Saskatoon man accused of ramming multiple police vehicles in the Melfort RCMP parking lot made his first court appearance on Tuesday.

Terrance Whitehead, 45, is charged with operating a conveyance in a manner dangerous to the public, operating a conveyance while impaired by a drug, and resisting arrest. A woman has also been charged with operating a conveyance while impaired by a drug in connection with the case.

Melfort RCMP were called to the detachment parking lot at around 9:30 p.m. following reports of someone driving a truck into police vehicles. Officers arrived to find someone driving “erratically” into three parked police vehicles and two dumpsters.

Police say the man driving the truck got out of the vehicle and a woman in the passenger seat got in the driver’s seat and drove away.

Officers say the man resisted, but was arrested a short time later. Police found the truck nearby and arrested the woman.

No injuries were reported, however one of the police vehicles was damaged so badly it is no longer drivable. Another vehicle will require repairs. None of the vehicles were occupied at the time.
