Events are being held all across the province next week to celebrate Saskatchewan Parks Week.
The celebration of the province’s provincial parks is being held July 15-21, and events are planned to celebrate all week long.
“Starting with a Learn to Fish weekend, a week-long BioBlitz, shows from SaskExpress and wrapping up with Canada’s Parks Day on July 21, we want as many people as possible to experience our magnificent provincial park system,” Parks, Culture and Sport Minister Gene Makowsky said in a press release.
“Whether you are an experienced camper or a novice wanting to camp for the first time, Parks Week will have something for you.”
The week has been celebrated in the province for over 35 years. It aims to promote the benefits of parks and facilities, as well as the province’s natural, cultural and historic resources.
SaskExpress will be performing at some parks to celebrate, touring with their new Circus of Life show, the same show seen at Street Fair this year.
A province-wide virtual BioBlitz is also being held. The BioBlitz is a way people can engage with nature while using modern technology. After downloading the free iNaturalist app, guests can upload their photos to the Saskatchewan Parks project to discover and record as many species of plants, wildlife and bugs as possible in each provincial park. Through the app, on online community will attempt to determine the species pictures and whether it is native to Saskatchewan. Anyone who makes an observation and posts it will have a chance to win an annual parks pass and two nights of free camping.
