The results of a provincial survey revealed most respondents think if someone wants to enter privately-owned rural property, they need permission first.
The government released the questionnaire in September looking for input into potential changes to trespassing laws.
“The responses show that many people see the current onus on the land owner to post their property as unfair,” said Justice Minister Don Morgan in a news release.
He added they’re working on updating the legislation for recreational activities like hunting or snowmobiling.
Out of about 1600 responses, 65 per cent supported the change, 32 per cent didn’t and three per cent had inconclusive responses.
The province expects to make minor changes to its trespassing legislation during the current fall sitting of the Legislative Assembly.
