RCMP increased their patrols and check stops across the province for Canada Road Safety Week, laying over 3,000 charges.
A few things they focused on were impaired, distracted and aggressive driving, as well as seatbelt enforcement.
From May 14 to 20, officers stopped 14,423 vehicles.
They laid 2,045 charges for aggressive driving or speeding, 141 for seatbelt violations, 131 for distracted driving, 63 for alcohol impairment and one for drug impairment.
Additionally, the RCMP gave 1,802 warnings and issued 329 inspection notices.
Specifically over the May long weekend from May 17 to 20, officers laid 1,416 charges for aggressive driving or speeding, 89 for seatbelt violations, 61 for distracted driving, 54 for alcohol impairment and one for drug impairment.
The RCMP said in a news release that traffic violations are a daily priority and not just for Road Safety Week.
They encourage the public to travel safety with summer around the corner.
