The death of a 44-year-old woman from Rabbit Lake two years ago is still under investigation, and the Saskatchewan RCMP continue to ask the public to report any information they have about the case.
The Battlefords RCMP found Candie Pritchard’s remains outside a residence on Red Pheasant Cree Nation on Feb. 5, 2024. A search by RCMP Search and Rescue located additional evidence in a treed area along a roadway on Red Pheasant Cree Nation and an autopsy and continued police investigation determined Candie’s death to be suspicious.
Pritchard was 44-years-old at the time of her death. Her mother, Lorna, continues to keep her memory alive.
“Two years ago, our lives were forever changed when my daughter was murdered,” Lorna said in a press release. “The silence since then has been unbearable. Someone knows what happened, and we are pleading for that person or persons to come forward.
“My daughter deserves justice and our family deserves peace. She was a caring, loving daughter, mom, sister and gramma. She never got the chance to meet or hold her two grandsons.”
The Saskatchewan RCMP’s Homicide Investigation Unit (HIU) is now in charge of the investigation. The HIU continues to investigate Candie’s death and follow up on new information received.
No charges have been laid, but the investigation remains active and ongoing.
“We know there are people who have information about what happened to Candie, and we need them to tell police what they know,” says Inspector Ashley St. Germaine, senior investigative officer with Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crimes Branch. “Even a small detail could make the difference in this investigation and help provide Candie’s family with answers.”
Anyone with information about Pritchard’s death should report to police. Tips can be submitted by calling Saskatchewan RCMP or local police of jurisdiction. Information can also be submitted anonymously by contacting Saskatchewan Crime Stoppers.
This investigation is supported by officers from the Saskatchewan RCMP’s Police Dog Services, Forensic Identification Services, RCMP Search and Rescue, and Battlefords Detachment, among others.
The Homicide Investigation Unit, formerly known as the Major Crimes Unit, is part of the Saskatchewan RCMP’s Major Crimes Branch.
The Homicide Investigation Unit investigates homicides, suspicious deaths, missing persons where foul play is suspected or likely, explosions believed to be of a criminal nature involving death or injury, and other incidents, as directed.
