With the Canadian Country Music Association Awards (CCMAs) coming up in September, multi-service music media and marketing company, OddballProductions, are hosting a ‘Road to CCMAs’ event at Rock Trout Cafe on Sept. 16.
The event will showcase up-and-coming country artists including Jeremy Grey, Justin Sutton, and Prince Albert local Taya Lebel.
Danny Fournier, marketing and promotions manager at OddballProductions, expressed his excitement for the upcoming gathering.
“We thought it would be cool to kind of bring a little bit of that experience to Prince Albert, as some of our artists are touring through on their way to the CCMA,” he said. “So, we’ve worked in a stop here and have three artists that are going to be attending the CCMAs and doing stuff that weekend just play a show here.”
The CCMAs will finish off the Country Music Week in Saskatoon on Sept. 19, starting at 6 p.m. The event aims to highlight and celebrate Canadian country artists as well as to spotlight artists rising in the genre.
“I’ve done different events at the Rock Trout before, we’ve always had a great time. It’s a great venue and a great staff. This is going to be a unique experience,” explained Fournier.
Fournier describes the show to be more “simple” and similar to showcases that happen throughout the week leading up to the CCMAs.
“We’re going to have all three artists up on stage at the same time and they’re each going to take turns doing stuff, playing their songs, possibly playing some songs that influence them, and possibly even doing some stuff together,” he said.
The ‘Road to the CCMAs’ all-ages event will be at the Rock Trout Cafe, with doors at 6:30 p.m and music starting at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are available for purchase through Eventbrite.
“I think one of the biggest things is it is going to be a different show where all three artists will be on stage at the same time and showcasing,” Fournier said. “Through that, I think it creates more of a unique experience and gives the audience—everybody coming—the opportunity to see all three artists.”
