Ringing phone helps Battlefords RCMP dial in on robbery suspect

Some quick thinking allowed Battlefords RCMP officers to recover a stolen phone before the perpetrator disappeared.
Officers received a report of a robbery at a business on the Hwy 16 bypass in North Battleford. Police say a man threatened an individual with a gun and demanded their cellphone and wallet. No physical injuries were reported.
Officers used a GPS service and determined the stolen phone was just outside the business. They went outside, dialled the stolen phone’s number, heard it ringing, and arrested the man who was in possession of it.
Officers then searched a room in the business and located and seized a sawed-off firearm, ammunition and a baton.

Henderson appeared in North Battleford Provincial Court on Mar. 9.
