The wine flowed freely at the 27th annual Samuel McLeod Business Awards Thursday, a gala evening that recognizes Prince Albert’s leading companies and entrepreneurs.

In front of a packed house at the Ches Leach lounge, Redhead Equipment was declared 2016’s business of the year.

Sales Manager Arron McLean accepted the award for the company, which recently built a 60,000 square foot facility on Highway 11.

“We’re pretty excited to be part of Prince Albert, part of the north,” McLean said. The company, he stressed, has expanded employment and plans to “keep on growing.”

He beat out two other finalists, Prairie Recreation and Gene’s Cycle & Sports, and recognized the hard work of their managers.

“We want to congratulate (them) on a good job,” he said. “You guys have been around forever. You’ve outfitted my boys with all kinds of sports equipment … way less babysitting time.”

McLean shook hands with the gala’s dignitaries. Minister Joe Hargrave sat near the front, near MLA Nicole Rancourt and Mayor Greg Dionne.

Dionne thanked the nominees for creating opportunity in Prince Albert.

“When we can come together and celebrate the accomplishments of our business community that’s a great evening,” he said. “Whether you take the award home or not, to us, you’re all winners. You make our community strong.”
