RCMP lay charges in 2018 Buffalo Narrows homicide case

RCMP have charged a 67-year-old man with second degree murder in connection with the 2018 death of Jason Chartier, 42, of Buffalo Narrows.Robert Young, 67, was arrested without incident in Buffalo Narrows on Jan. 12 and taken into custody.

He made his first court appearance in the community on Jan. 13.RCMP found Chartier injured and unconscious near a shed behind a residence in Buffalo Narrows at around 1 p.m. on Dec. 20, 2018. Officers declared him dead shortly after arriving.Investigators considered the death suspicious at the time.

An investigation by Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crimes Unit North and several other detachments and specialized united later identified Chartier as the victim of a homicide.

Saskatchewan RCMP Victim Services have been dispatched to provide Chartier’s family with any emotional support they need.Buffalo Narrows RCMP, North Battleford and Regina RCMP Forensic Identification Services (FIS) and RCMP MCU-South all assisted in the investigation.
