The Saskatchewan RCMP have filed charges against a 21-year-old Pelican Narrows man and a 27-year-old Prince Albert man following an investigation into a vehicle theft that occurred on April 12.
Kayden McCallum, 21, of Pelican Narrows and Jordan Kerfoot, 27, of Prince Albert both face four charges, including one count each of unauthorized possession of a firearm. The RCMP are still searching for a third suspect believed to be involved in the case.
McCallum, Kerfoot, and the third unidentified suspect are alleged to have robbed a man of his truck at gun point on the 2700 block of 15th Avenue East in Prince Albert at around 12:50 a.m. on April 12. Police allege that all three men stole the truck after brandishing a firearm in a taxi and ordering the driver to follow the vehicle to a business before stealing it. Police say a woman was also in the taxi at the time.
The victim was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
Prince Albert Police Officers noticed what appeared to be the stolen vehicle at the intersection of Sixth Avenue and 15th Street. They attempted to stop it, but the driver fled at a high rate of speed. The police did not pursue the vehicle due to public safety concerns.
At 7 a.m. that day, RCMP officers in Pelican Narrows received reports that the stolen vehicle had been sighted and was out of fuel. Officers from Pelican Narrows and the Saskatchewan RCMP La Ronge Crime Reduction Team responded and found the truck travelling slowly along Hwy 135, roughly 10 km north of the Hwy 106 junction.
The officers stopped the vehicle, but say the driver began making repeated attempts to restart the truck. Police later positioned their vehicles to prevent the driver from fleeing after the truck was successfully restarted.
Police say the truck stopped again and the driver continued trying to restart it. Police say none of the occupants complied with demands to exit the vehicle.
The RCMP approached the truck and removed and arrested the driver and another occupant. The police say a third occupant fled into the nearby woods on foot. The officers are still searching for the third suspect. Anyone with information about his location is asked to call 310-RCMP.
Officers searched the truck and found a prohibited firearm, and stolen credit cards.
