The Prince Albert Raiders pelted Brandon Wheat Kings goaltender Filip Ruzicka with 47 shots, including 18 alone in the third period, as they skated to a comfortable 5-2 win at the Art Hauser Centre on Saturday.
At the other end, Raiders starter Michal Orsulak marked his return to the Prince Albert Raider lineup by stopping 20 of 22 Wheat Kings shots. Orsulak last played in a 4-3 win over Moose Jaw on Jan. 27.
Benett Kelly opened the scoring roughly five minutes into the first period when he jumped into the rush and tipped in a Brandon Gorzynski pass. Connor Howe made it 2-0 with a quick bit of stickhandling that sent a Wheat Kings defender sliding into the corner and a wrist shot over Ruzicka’s shoulder.
Prabh Bhathal got the visitors on the board 5:32 into the second, but Braeden Cootes and Alisher Sarkenov both scored before the period ended, making it 4-1 Prince Albert heading into the third.
Cameron Allard made things interesting with a power play goal early in the third period, but the Raiders responded with a power play goal of their own from Aiden Oiring less than three minutes later to make it 5-2.
The Raiders are off until Tuesday when they welcome the Regina Pats to the Art Hauser Centre. Puck drop is 7 p.m.
