Prince Albert RCMP seize drugs and slingshot outside Sask. Pen

Prince Albert RCMP seized roughly 70 grams of methamphetamine, 42 grams of cocaine, 38 pharmaceutical style pills, and drug trafficking paraphernalia including a homemade slingshot from a vehicle parked outside the Saskatchewan Penitentiary on Saturday, Jan. 11.

Prince Albert RCMP were called to the scene at around 9:20 p.m. following a request for assistance from the Correctional Service of Canada (CSC).

According to an RCMP press release, CSC staff noticed a suspicious vehicle in the parking lot with three people inside. Officers investigated and found the drugs and slingshot, which police say was used for launching drugs over the penitentiary fence.

Police have arrested two men and one woman in connection with the case. Mervin Vermette, 50, of Shellbrook, faces three charges. He made his first court appearance on Monday.

Jacquelyn, 23, and Keenen Grimard, 25, both of Prince Albert, have also been charged. They are scheduled to appear in provincial court on March 3.
