Heather Benning is returning to the Mann Art Gallery Saturday, and 10 eager artists will be joining her for a master class in sculpting.
Whether seasoned sculptor or bashful beginner, artists are encouraged to sign up for the daylong class, where the acclaimed Benning will guide participants through the creation of a sculpture, from armature to finish.
Benning is the artist behind ‘A Prairie Gothic: let our Fields Be Broader, But Our Nights So Much Darker’, an eerie sculpture show on display at the gallery until May 13.
The workshop is one of a few held every year that bring in featured artists to show the processes they use in creating their works.
“We decided it would be really great to run a sculpture workshop,” said gallery educator Lana Wilson.
“We’ve got so many talented painters and ceramic artists in prince Albert, we decided it would be nice to focus a little bit more on a slightly larger medium and large-scale sculptures that use armatures, because that’s something Heather explores in her work.”
The workshop will run from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and costs $75. Due to a risk of dust, participants will be provided nitrile and vinyl gloves and dust masks.
