A 24-year-old man faces multiple charges after allegedly fleeing police while impaired and driving his car into a tree stump.
Prince Albert police first received reports of an impaired driver in a white van at around 5 p.m. on April 30.
The van was originally reported to be in the 1400 block of 10th Avenue West. Officers were on their way to the area when they saw the vehicle at the intersection of Sixth Avenue and 15th Street.
Police say the vehicle approached an amber light and failed to stop. The officers activated their emergency lights and tried to pull the vehicle over. Officers observed the vehicle swerving before it came to a stop.
When officers approached the vehicle, it took off at a high rate of speed. The police followed from a few blocks to maintain public safety.
Police received another report about an impaired driver in a white van at around 6:15 p.m. Officers found the vehicle shortly after, but say the driver continued to evade police.
According to a Prince Albert Police Service press release, the vehicle collided with a tree stump on 29th Street East. The driver then fled on foot, but was arrested moments later.
The suspect refused to give a breath sample, according to the press release. Officers also searched the vehicle and discovered alcohol in the front seat.
Police have charged a 24-year-old man with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, refusing to provide a breath sample, impaired driving, evading police, and breaching probation and release orders.
