Plane makes emergency landing on highway north of Shellbrook

Motorists were surprised to discover an unexpected obstacle touching down on Highway 240 on Sunday.

According to RCMP, the pilot of a single-engine Piper Cherokee 6 aircraft was forced to make an emergency landing on the highway, roughly 24 km north of Shellbrook. The plane landed at 1:40 p.m. without major damage, but clipped a road sign with one wing before coming to rest in an nearby field.

The 41-year-old pilot from Clavet, Sask. was the only occupant in the plane. No injuries were reported.

Shellbrook RCMP and Transport Canada are investigating the incident.
