Perfect round-robin for Bears at Mandi Schwartz Tournament

The Prince Albert Northern Bears have had a strong showing so far at the 2018 Mandi Schwartz Memorial Tournament in Milestone and Wilcox.

At the conclusion of Pool A play Friday, the Bears found themselves in first place with a 3-0 record and are now gearing up for a semifinal matchup against the Notre Dame Hounds at 1 p.m. Saturday in Wilcox.

The Bears opened up the tournament with a dramatic 4-3 win over the Eastman Selects from Manitoba Thursday morning.

After watching a 3-0 lead disappear during the third period, Miranda Heidt found the back of the net with 1:33 left in regulation to give the Bears the victory.

Heidt continued her stellar play later that day as she scored all three of her team’s goals in a 3-2 win over the Northern Alberta Xtreme.

The Bears wrapped up pool play Friday morning with a 2-1 win over the Lloydminster Steelers.

The scoring details from that game were not available.

Playoff action begins Saturday at the 16-team tournament, with a champion being crowned Sunday at 3:30 p.m.

The winner of the Bears and Hounds semifinal game will go up against either the Regina Rebels or the Saskatoon Stars for the gold medal.
