Two years ago singer Ben Hale had the idea to put together a travelling show that combined the music of Roy Orbison and the Everly Brothers. He said it was “kind of an experiment at first that went really, really well.”

Hale said the appeal comes down to the staying power of the material in the show.

“The songs are so perfectly written. Most of them are two to three minutes … they follow or perhaps defined some of the perfect pop craftsmanship in terms of form. But in terms of what makes it draw people in is the melodies and the subject matter,” said Hale, who dons the dark sunglasses and sings the songs of Orbison.

“Roy Orbison, he wrote from really dark places sometimes. Places that are very personal but relatable.”

Hale’s production, Orbison and the Everly Bros. Reimagined, is coming to the E.A. Rawlinson Centre on Monday, Dec. 12.
