Perfect harmony

Vocal group Rockapella visits P.A. on only Canadian stop on their current tour

When Scott Leonard was growing up he would root through his mother’s record collection looking for something to play. He ended up discovering classic mid-century a cappella and vocal harmony groups like the Mills Brothers, the Crew Cuts and the Beach Boys.

“I’ve always loved that kind of male harmony sound, that kind of buzz of those notes together and the low voice. I’ve always just gravitated towards that kind of singing,” he said.

“It’s such a unique sound.”

In the 1990s Leonard brought a cappella back into the pop music conversation with his group, Rockapella, best known for their performances on the PBS television program Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?
