A 26-year-old man from Prince Albert and 25-year-old woman from Deschambault Lake both face multiple charges following an investigation into an assault and vehicle theft in Jan Lake.
Multiple Saskatchewan RCMP detachments collaborated on the investigation which led to the arrest of Keith McCallum, 26, and Kanyssa Merasty, 25.
Mccallum has been charged with robbery, assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, carrying a concealed weapon and possession of a firearm contrary to a prohibition order. Merasty has been charged with robbery, assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, carrying a concealed weapon and failure to comply with a probation order.
Mccallum is scheduled to appear in Prince Albert Provincial Court on Feb. 26. Merasty is scheduled to appear in Pelican Narrows Provincial Court on Mar. 3.
The investigation began at around 5:35 p.m. on Feb. 15 when Pelican Narrows RCMP received a report of an assault and vehicle robbery with a firearm in Jan Lake. According to the report, a man and a woman in their mid 20s assaulted the occupant of a white Dodge Ram truck, then stole the vehicle.
Police officers from several RCMP detachments responded immediately. Pelican Narrows RCMP, Creighton RCMP and Deschambeault Lake RCMP searched for the white Dodge Ram truck. The truck was not located. The victim was located by Pelican Narrows RCMP and determined to have non-life-threatening injuries.
On February 16, at around 3:00 a.m., while responding to a report of a traffic collision on Highway 165, La Ronge RCMP officers located the male suspect and the stolen white Dodge Ram truck. La Ronge RCMP arrested the suspect, a 26-year-old man who was also wanted on warrant by Creighton RCMP for breach of probation since Feb. 9.
Through further investigation, on Feb. 16, at around 2:00 p.m., Prince Albert RCMP and Montreal Lake RCMP officers located and arrested the female suspect in a vehicle travelling on Hwy 2, north of Prince Albert. During the subsequent search of the vehicle, police officers located a replica revolver CO2 air pistol.
