As the start of fall draws closer on the calendar, the Prince Albert Speed Skating Club are gearing up for a new season.
Registration for the new season takes place on Tuesday, Sept. 11 at the lobby of the Art Hauser Centre from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
“We’re a pretty dynamic club that’s run exclusive by volunteers, “ Prince Albert Speed Skating Club president Nadine Penney said.
“We have coaches that have experience from skating in the pass and we like to make sure that everyone is having fun.”
In addition to the speed skating program, the club also offers a 14-week Learn to Skate program, which involves a half-hour weekly lesson at the Art Hauser Centre for anyone over the age of four.
“We also offer a free trail for those who want to try speed skating, as we’ll let them go out on the ice and give it a try before they make a commitment,” Penney said. “There’s a minimal amount of equipment required as well, as we supply the skates and the skin suit.”
The Learn to Skate program costs $175 to take part in, while the speed skating program costs around $400 as it is based on the age category that the skater is in.
On the competitive side of things, the PASSC will start off their competitive season at the end of October in Warman and will also take part at meets held in Saskatoon, Regina, Moose Jaw and Lloydminster.
“We’ll also be hosting a two-day meet on March 2 and 3 at the Art Hauser Centre,” Penney said.
“That’s always an exciting time for us as it’s great for us to showcase our talent to the rest of the city.”
