PA police to present Year-End Statistical Report at Tuesday meeting

Report shows increase in victims of violent crime, sexual violence victims, and intimate partner violence, decrease in break-ins and property crime

Impaired driving charges, mental health calls, intimate partner violence, and motor vehicle thefts all increased in Prince Albert last year, while break-and-enters and property crime dropped.

That’s according to the Year-End 2025 Statistical report that will be presented at Tuesday’s Board of Police Commissioners meeting.

Total calls for service also increased in 2025. There were 40,353 calls last year, compared to 39,062 calls in 2024. Both are well below the 2022 high, when the Prince Albert Police Service received 44,241 calls for service.

Disturbance calls, which are classified as any behaviour that disturbs the peace (fighting, shouting, swearing, refusing to leave when unwanted) accounted for more than half of all calls for service (57.69 per cent) in 2025.

The number of violent crime victims also increased in Prince Albert. The report shows 1,971 victims in 2025, a 9.38 per cent increase from the year before, when there were 1,802 victims.

According to the report, “physical force” continues to be the most commonly used weapon in violent crimes (806). Bear spray (191), knives (167), firearms (115), and blunt objects (74) rounded out the top five.

An increase in violent crime victims occurred in the last four months of 2025. Police reported 475 victims of violent crime during the fourth quarter of 2025, and increase from the 433 reported during the same time in 2024.

There were six homicides in 2025, three of which resulted in criminal charges. There were also six attempted murders last year, four of which resulted in criminal charges.

There were five homicides in 2024, and no attempted murders.

Prince Albert also saw an increase in the number of sexual violence victims in 2025. There 149 victims last year. The police filed charges in 40 of those occurrences.

The number of assault victims increased by 8.78 per cent in 2025. Police reported 1,425 assault victims last year, compared to 1,210 in 2024. Both numbers are down from 2023, when police reported 1,487 assault victims.

In 2025 there were 317 occurrences of intimate partner violence. In 165 of those occurrences, the resulting investigation led to criminal charges. In 2024, there were 286 occurrences of intimate partner violence. That’s down from the high reported in 2022, when there were 427 occurrences.

Most domestic violence cases involved a boyfriend/girlfriend (137) or ex-boyfriend/girlfriend (103).

Property crime saw a significant decrease in 2025. Last year, 2,661 instances were reported, a 20.83 per cent decrease from 2024 when 3,361 were reported.

Break-and-enters also dropped from 482 in 2024 to 323 reported in 2025. That’s a 32.98 per cent decrease. Investigations led to charges in 70 of the 2025 cases.

Motor vehicle theft increased from 323 thefts in 2024 to 417 in 2025. Both totals are well below 2023, when 495 thefts were reported.

The report shows 79 impaired driving occurrences in 2025, which resulted in 70 charges. That’s slightly above 2024, when police reported 76 impaired driving occurrences, and 69 charges.

In 2025, dispatchers received 880 mental health related calls for service. The calls were almost evenly split between daytime and night. The Police and Crisis Team were involved in 695 mental health related occurrences.

In 2024, police reported 489 mental health related calls.
