The Rosthern Harvest Festival will take place from September 18 to 20. Centennial Park will be the hub for a variety of friendly competitions, including a hot dog-eating contest and a tug-of-war challenge set to take place on Saturday.
For those aged 19 and older who think they can eat the most hot dogs in ten minutes, there is a $10 entry fee, but spots are limited. Similarly, those aged 16 and older who want to test their strength in the tug-of-war, along with four friends, should act quickly as spaces are also limited. Registration for both events can be completed by texting your name, the contest name, and the names of your team members to 306-349-4529.
Thursday’s events include a chilli cook-off, live music, and children’s inflatables at Valley Action Abilities, and an art activity night at the Station Arts Centre.
On Friday, enjoy a quilt show and museum tours at the Rosthern Museum and Mennonite Interpretive Centre. The Station Arts Centre, in partnership with the Town of Rosthern, is presenting the Lost Highway Navigators at the Jubilee Arena from 7:00 to 8:30 PM, with doors opening at 6:30 PM. This free show is open to all ages.
RJC will be hosting its home volleyball tournament, and an exhibition ball game will take place at the Centennial Park ball diamonds. The evening will conclude with an outdoor movie at the Jubilee Arena parking lot at 8:00 PM.
On Saturday, the festival will kick off with a pancake breakfast at the arena, followed by a parade, a car show, food trucks, and Lions Club rides in Centennial Park. The Stobart Drum and Dance Troupe will be performing, and there will also be a jigging workshop led by the Creeland Dancers.
In the evening, the Creeland Dancers will perform at a fundraiser for the Rosthern Fire & Rescue. A supper provided by King’s Chicken & Pizza will precede an old-fashioned dance featuring music by Dean & Sylvia. This event is sponsored by the Rosthern & District Farmers Market and Duck Lake Métis Local #10. Tickets can be reserved by contacting Scott at 306-212-7454.
Additionally, a slo-pitch tournament will be held on Saturday at the ball diamonds, a book sale will take place at the Library, and there will be a gymkhana and a petting zoo at the Rosthern Ag Society’s grounds at Seager Wheeler Farm.
The performers, musicians, and activities for Harvest Festival are funded through the Framework in Action Grant offered in partnership by Lakeland District for Sport, Culture & Recreation, Saskatchewan Parks & Recreation Association, and Sask Lotteries, which allows everyone to attend the event for free, excluding the fundraising activities.
The festival will conclude with fireworks on Saturday evening.
