
A 40-year-old man faces weapons, firearms, and drug possession charges after being arrested on outstanding warrants on Wednesday.
Members of the Prince Albert Police Service were patrolling the area when they spotted the man walking down the street on the 1100 Block of First Avenue West.
Officers arrested the man without incident. While investigating, they found a firearm and methamphetamine in his backpack.
The man also faces four counts of breaching probation. He made his first court appearance on Thursday.
The arrest was one of three cases where Prince Albert police officers removed a firearm from the streets on Wednesday.
Members of the Combined Traffic Services Saskatchewan unit in Prince Albert stopped a vehicle speeding near Hwy 55 East at around 12:50 p.m.
The driver of the vehicle told officers he had used cannabis. While officers were testing him for consumption, an object that police say appeared to be methamphetamine fell from his person. He was arrested without incident. Polices say the driver’s oral fluid test also came back positive for cocaine.
Officers searched the vehicle, found a firearm, and arrested the female passenger.
As a result of the investigation, a 23-year-old man and 25-year-old woman face a number of firearms charges. The man has also been charged with obstructing police and possession of methamphetamine.
Officers also seized a firearm after being dispatched to the Food Court in Gateway Mall at around 1 p.m. following reports of a suspicious person. Police were told four men in the food court were speaking about a break and enter, with one saying he had been bear sprayed.
Officers arrived to find three men and a woman who matched descriptions of the suspects. Police say the woman began walking towards the washroom where she met a fourth man and returned to the table.
Police arrested all four men without incident. Officer found and seized a handgun inside one of the suspect’s backpacks following a search. The investigation is ongoing.
Officers also seized a sawed-off shotgun and ammunition on Thursday following a motor vehicle collision.
Police were called to the scene at around 12:20 p.m. by the Prince Albert Fire Department who were concerned an intoxicated driver had fled. Oficers arrived to find that a stolen white SUV had collided with another vehicle.
Police say a woman was seen exiting the SUV’s driver’s seat with a bottle of alcohol. Another woman and three men also exited the vehicle.
A Prince Albert police K-9 team led officers to the 2600 block of Sixth Avenue West where they recovered a bottle of alcohol. Officers also seized the shotgun and ammunition from the SUV.
