NIPAWIN — Nipawin council has approved $69,000 in community sponsorship funding for 2026, supporting recreation, youth engagement and wellness initiatives across the town.

In a report presented to council Feb. 23, Derek Seckinger, general manager of community services, said the Town of Nipawin allocates funding each year to organizations that enhance quality of life for residents.

“These funds support operational needs, program delivery and capital upgrades to facilities accessed by the broader public,” the report stated.

All approved funding was included in 2026 budget deliberations and aligns with the town’s strategic objectives, including youth engagement, recreation and community wellness.

Among the allocations is $9,000 for the Nipawin Kinsmen Club to assist with maintenance and operational costs of the community’s outdoor rink. The seasonal facility provides winter recreation opportunities and is considered a key community asset, the report said.

The Northeast School Division will receive $10,000 to support its summer outreach programming. The initiative delivers educational and recreational activities for youth during the summer months, providing structured engagement while school is out. According to the report, Nipawin is one of few communities offering outreach support throughout the summer.

Council also approved $1,000 for Wapiti Regional Park to assist with operational costs. The funding replaces the former fee-for-service model and supports general maintenance and services.

A further $20,000 was allocated to Nipawin Regional Park for operations and capital upgrades. The funding will help maintain recreational facilities and invest in improvements aimed at enhancing the experience for residents and visitors.

Nipawin Revolution Gymnastics will receive $9,000 to support programming and operational costs, including offsetting facility taxes. The organization provides structured recreation and physical literacy programs for youth in the region.

An additional $20,000 was approved for OASIS Centre to assist with community health, wellness and shelter programming. The funding will not be used for taxes or wages but will instead support shelter, nutrition and wellness services for vulnerable residents.

Organizations seeking sponsorship in future years must submit completed applications by Oct. 31 to be considered during annual budget deliberations.

Seckinger’s report noted that grouping requests into a single allocation allows council to review applications collectively, make adjustments where necessary and approve funding within the annual budget framework.
