Local writers group helps those with mental illness express their experiences

For more than three years, Prince Albert poet Lynda Monahan has been helping people living with mental health issues express themselves through writing.

Over that period, Monahan said she has seen the positive effects of the program on her participants.

“It’s really helped them to gain a lot of confidence in themselves, especially when they see their work published and they get a little check in the mail. That’s very empowering for them,” she said.

“When they finally get to express how they feel and then have people listen to how they’re feeling and what’s going on in their lives, I think they feel a difference, too.”
