New housing opens in Ile-a-la-Crosse

Members of Métis Nation Saskatchewan were on hand in the Northern Village of Ile-a-la-Crosse for the opening of 10 new housing units in the community on Monday, Feb. 24.

Glen McCallum, MN-S President, was on hand to cut the ribbon to open seven one-bedroom, newly-constructed, one-bedroom tiny homes and three, three-bedroom homes.

The project was a joint initiative of MN-S and Sakitawak Development Corporation (SDC).

“SDC will own and manage the housing,” according to information received from MN-S.

The Village provided the land in-kind for the project, which was slated for completion March 31, 2025.

MN-S’s total investment for the project was $1,653,700, which wws 87 per cent of the total project, according to background information provided by MN-S.

Along with McCallum, those involved in the Ribbon Cutting included: Elder Eva McCallum;  MN-S Director of Housing and Homelessness, Mathieu Gaudet; Sakitawak Development Corp CEO, Tyler Morin; MN-S Housing and Homelessness Minister, Loretta King; MN_S Vice President, Michelle LeClair; and Sakitawak Operations Manager, John Belanger.

This was one of three MN-S housing project openings. McCallum was unavailable for an interview with the Northern Advocate we went to press.
