Mustangs advance to second round of SJHL Playoffs

The Melfort Mustangs advanced to the second round of the SJHL Playoffs with a 3-1 series win over the Kindersley Klippers. 

The Mustangs advanced to the second round with a 5-2 win over the Klippers in Melfort on Saturday, March 29. 

The Mustangs led 1-0 after the first period and 2-0 after the second period. 

Logan Belton, Reilley Kotai, Tristin Zionla, Will Munro and Kaleb Binner scored for the Mustangs. 

Russ Demo and Ethan Sautner responded for the Klippers. 

Kristian Coombs made 19 saves for the Miustangs; Cody Jaman made 24 saves for the Klippers. 

The Klippers got back in the series with a 3-2 overtime win in Kindersley on Wednesday, March 26. 

Shayne Tibbles was the overtime hero for Kindersley scoring 5:16 into the extra frame. 

 Munro and  Kotai scored for Melfort in regulation. 

 Sautner and Will Christian responded for the Klippers in regulation. 

Coombs made 18 saves for the Mustangs; Cody Jaman made 29 saves for the Klippers. 

Melfort took a 3-0 lead with a 4-3 win in Kindersley on Tuesday, March 25 

The game was tied 1-1 after the first period and the Mustangs led 4-2 after the second period. 
Munro, Ziola, Danton Cox and Zac Somers scored for the Mustangs. 

Cam Perlinger, Zakery Anderson and Tibbles scored for the Klippers. 

Coombs made 27 saves for Melfort; Brett O’Halloran made 23 saves for the Klippers. 

The Yorkton Terriers were the first team to advance in the playoffs with a win over the Melville Millionaires. 

After the print deadline for the newspaper the Mustangs learned that they would be facing the Yorkton Terriers. The teams meet in Melfort on Friday, April 4 and Saturday, April 5 for Game 1 and Game 2.
