The Mont St. Joseph Home’s longest running fundraiser returns to the Prince Albert Golf and Curling Club on Saturday.
The annual Monty Funspiel begins at 8:30 a.m. and runs until 6 p.m. This year’s event will celebrate the home’s 27 years of service in the community.
“This is a huge, huge step for us. We are so proud that our foundation has been up and running for the past 27 years, ” Jessica Gale, Director of Foundation Development, Mont Sent Joseph Foundation said.
Gale said the Monty Funspiel was the first fundraising event the Mont St. Joseph Foundation held. The original plan was to raise funds to construct their current building.
Since then, tradition has continued, as curlers gather at the Golf and Curling Club every year to throw rocks, and support the home.
“We are really grateful for all those from the community who have supported our foundation over the last 27 years—for the Monty and for all other events that we put on,” Gale said. “We would not have been able to do the work that we do without our community.”
Tickets for the upcoming Monty are sold out. There are thirty teams set to take the ice at the Prince Albert Golf and Curling Centre on Saturday.
“It is a jam-packed whirlwind of fun in one day,” Gale said.
There will also be an online auction with lots of wonderful items set for bidding. The online auction starts on Thursday at 8 a.m. and runs until Sunday at 6 a.m.
The auction is open to everybody. The Foundation has set $30,000 as this target although they hope to realize more than that.
Gale said the money from this year’s Monty will go towards rebuilding the dining area for residents. She said they are currently in the last stage of fundraising.
