MELFORT — The Ripley Ford Melfort Mustangs recognized the contributions of several longtime board members and introduced new leadership during the organization’s annual general meeting (AGM) on Aug. 18.
The meeting provided an opportunity to review the past year, acknowledge departing directors and announce changes to the board and executive positions.
During the president’s report, the Mustangs paid tribute to three board members who are stepping away after years of volunteer service.
Lionel Shmyr concluded a 15-year tenure with the organization, including 12 years as governor. The Mustangs credited him with providing leadership and representing the organization at the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League level throughout his time on the board.
Connie Van Camp also stepped down after 15 years of service, including a decade as treasurer. The organization said her behind-the-scenes work and commitment played a significant role in the club’s ongoing success.
Jesiah Pask completed five years on the board of directors. The Mustangs thanked her for her dedication, time and contributions to both the organization and the community.
“We extend a sincere thank you to Lionel Shmyr, Connie Van Camp and Jesiah Pask as they step away from the board. Their time, dedication and commitment to our organization have made a lasting impact, and we are incredibly grateful for everything they have contributed.”
The AGM also brought new additions to the board, with Kelly Fraser and Brittany Elder joining as directors.
“We are also excited to welcome Kelly Fraser and Brittany Elder to the Board of Directors.”
The organization said it looks forward to the ideas, experience and enthusiasm the new members will bring as the Mustangs continue planning for the future.
Several executive positions were also updated following the AGM. Ryan Case will continue as vice-president while taking on the role of governor. Jade-Emma Bishop has assumed the position of secretary, while Connie Carter will serve as treasurer.
The Mustangs noted that openings remain on the board of directors and encouraged community members interested in helping shape the organization’s future to get involved.
“We still have openings on our Board of Directors. If you are passionate about the Mustangs and want to help contribute to the future of the organization, we would love to hear from you.”
The organization also expressed appreciation to its volunteers, corporate partners, billets, fans and community supporters.
In a news release, the Mustangs said the strength of the organization continues to come from the people and businesses throughout Melfort and surrounding communities who support Mustangs hockey.
