Another Free Art Day event is set for Saturday at the Mann Art Gallery—only this time, with a special twist.
Lindsay Sorrell, the gallery operations manager, expressed her excitement for this edition of the event.
“It’s going to be longer. Usually we just do 12 to 4 p.m but this time it’s going to be 10 a.m to 5 p.m,” she explained. “It’s going to be playing off of the exhibition we have right now and then the Rawlinson is having a matinee for their show ‘Come From Away’, so we’re also having a pop-up for Lovey’s Bread. It’s nice to kind of expand upon that and create a little bit more space for people to gather and create that day.”
The gallery’s current exhibition is ‘Gibraltar Point’, a two-person exhibition by Michael Boutin and Tristan Durocher.
“It’s going to be focused on still lifes and photography,” said Sorrell. “We have the Northern Image photographers coming in and they’re going to be the photography club coming in and they’re going to be setting up a kind of photo booth area that’s going to be really fun for people to kind of see what professional backdrop is like and setting up still life stations where people can do a still life portrait or picture.”
Alongside the workshop are other art mediums participants can explore.
“There’s also going to be watercolour and collage and we’ll have some easels set up for drawing with pastels and charcoal, and we’ll also have an artist, Kiara Levesque, will be there helping and assisting,” she added.
The event is free admission and is for all-ages.
“I just wanted to invite people to just—even if they’ve never been to the gallery before or you know, have never drawn before—they’re totally welcome to come and join in, and we’d love to welcome people and teach a new skill,” said Sorrell. “If anyone’s interested in volunteering or getting connected more with the gallery, they can feel free to reach out.
The Mann Art Gallery Free Art Day event will be on Saturday, Aug. 15 at the Mann Art Gallery from 10 a.m to 5 p.m for all ages.
