A suspect wanted by the Saskatoon Police Service and La Loche RCMP faces additional charges after allegedly hitting a police vehicle while fleeing from the RCMP.
Trent Javier, 23, of La Loche faces multiple charges including assault with a weapon, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, flight from a peace officer, assault, forcible confinement, and taking a motor vehicle without consent of the owner, among other charges.
Investigators say the RCMP found Javier in a parked SUV outside a residence on Terrell Street in Turnor Lake. Javier was wanted by the SPS as part of an assault investigation, and by the La Loche RCMP for failing to comply with court-ordered conditions.
The RCMP attempted a traffic stop on the SUV. When the officer got out and approached the SUV, police say the driver pulled away and collided with the RCMP vehicle. Police say the driver of the SUV then reversed course, colliding with the vehicle a second time, then colliding with a house, before narrowly missing the police officer who was outside.
Investigators say the SUV then drove off toward Hwy No. 909. The police vehicle was damaged, but the officers on the scene did not report any physical injuries.
Shortly after, Turnor Lake RCMP located the SUV in the ditch near Willow Street in Turnor Lake with a female passenger was inside. Investigators say the driver of the SUV assaulted the female passenger and refused to let her leave the vehicle. The driver later exited the vehicle and fled into a nearby treed area. The female victim reported non-life-threatening injuries to police.
Officers later found and arrested Janvier at a residence in Turnor Lake that same day. Janvier appeared in court in La Loche on Feb. 2. His next court appearance is on Feb. 23.
La Loche and Buffalo Narrows RCMP assisted in the investigation.
