The Prince Albert Exhibition western light horse show was a special one for 12-year-old rider Payten Keyowski.
The Shellbrook native finished Saturday by ranking top in her junior C class to earn her the aggregate hi-point award.
“I got it the past couple years that I’ve been here but this is the first year where I felt like I earned it the most.”
Keyowski‘s horse Belle performed top at quadrangle, keyhole and poles to help earn her the title.
Because there was stiffer competition, Keyowski knew she had to practice more leading up to the event.
She practiced six days a week, spending hours training on her horse. “It’s important because it’s my home show.”
At the same time, riding with her friends and siblings was also fun.
“She does a lot of her own training on the horses so she earned it,” her grandfather James Grypiuk said.
“I’m really proud of her. She spends lots of hours on her horse so it’s nice to see when she does well at the fair.”
Keyowski will be showing next in North Battleford, where she will compete in English events.
Brennin Jack won the senior aggregate hi-point award. Brittany Krammer won the junior A hi-point and Lisa Bannerman won the junior B hi-point.
