The Mont St. Joseph Home is set to be transformed into an art gallery as the Kyla Artist Group returns with their 48th annual Kyla Art Show and Sale on Oct. 3 from 12:00 p.m to 5:00 p.m.
Participants can expect to enjoy an afternoon of art accompanied by tea, coffee, food, and hors d’oeuvres provided by the Mont St. Joseph Foundation.
“They’re so wonderful to work with. They’ll help you in every way they can,” said Kim Morrall, publicist and artist member with the Kyla Artist Group. “One of the wonderful things they’ve also done is after, they got some wall hanging stuff and some lights, so that after we’re done with a show, we can put up the art that we had on their wall.”
Over the years, the art show has grown its own local community of artists and connoisseurs, bridging connection and appreciation for the arts.
This year, the art show will be honouring the work and life of the late Kathie Bird, a recent inductee into the Prince Albert Arts Hall of Fame, well-renowned local artist, and long-time member and co-chair of the Kyla Artist Group.
“She was such a great person, and great artist, and she will definitely be missed from our group,” said Morrall. “We’re going to see if we can get some of her artwork, so we can do a special display of her art, invite her family, and talk a little bit about her.”
As for the exhibition and sale, the group has welcomed guest artists to showcase their work alongside the members.
“We’re going to have some new artists joining us, one’s more watercolour, another one is ceramic. We always just try to bring some new life and give artists a place to showcase their work,” she said.
Profits made from ticket sales will go towards the Mont St. Joseph’s Home, with a portion of money made from purchased artwork going towards the artists.
Looking to the future as the Kyla Artist Group nears its 50th annual art show and sale, Morrall said that she hopes it will be more ‘extravagant.’
“I think [people] are gonna see it kind of reverting back to something a lot bigger and more extravagant, possibly trying to get past members, and try to really get that history,” she said. “It’s a big deal.”
The Kyla Artist Group will be hosting their 48th annual Kyla Art Show and Sale on Oct. 3 at the Mont St. Joseph Home from 12:00 p.m to 5:00 p.m, with coffee, tea, and hors d’oeuvres available for guests to enjoy as they enjoy and appreciate artists and their work.
“Prince Albert has such an amazing arts community. I really, really always just encourage people to support your local art so this stuff can keep going and keep thriving,” said Morrall. “Support your local arts. I’m a big advocate of that, and I say it often, because we work really hard to create these things and it’s nice to have people see it and appreciate it.”
