The Official Pride Flag Raising was held at the Lac La Ronge Indian Band (LLRIB) Band Office on Monday July 3.
Chief Tammy Cook-Searson hosted the Flag Raising ceremony with man in attendance.
The Honourable Gudie Hutchings, Minister of Rural Economic Development and Minister responsible for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency, in town to make an official announcement regarding “Canada is expanding high-speed Internet in Saskatchewan,” joined the celebrations.
Cook-Searson wrote about her gratitude in sharing in the Pride Flag Raising at the Band Hall as it symbolizes “our unwavering support of our 2SLGBTQIA+ community members,” written on a Facebook post.
She wrote about the event as being “a heartwarming display of unity and inclusivity, with many community members.”
Those attending included: Hutchings, Cumberland MLA, Doyle Vermette, Moyor Joe Hordyski of Town of La Ronge and councillors from other countries.
“Their presence underscored the importance of standing together in support of diversity and respect for all,” she wrote on the post.
In thanking the crowd who attended, Cook-Searson wrote, “Together, we are building a community where everyone feels valued and accepted for who they are.”
The Northern Village of Air Ronge and the Town of La Ronge have also raised flags and have declared the month of June as Pride Month in their communities as well.
Plans are underway for the 2024 Lac La Ronge Pride Parade and Festival, which will be held on Saturday, June 29. The Lac La Ronge Regional Pride Committee is calling out for volunteers to support the events.
