The Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 2 in Prince Albert made four cheque donations to the local Cadet Corps at their annual General meeting on Wednesday, Jan. 14.
The donations came from the Legion’s Poppy Campaign Fund, which includes donations residents make every year so they can wear a poppy leading up to Remembrance Day. The funds are used to give back to Veterans, their families, the Cadets, and the Prince Albert community.

Prince Albert Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 2 Poppy Chair Lorraine Brassard said they’ve provided financial support for the cadets over the past few years and are happy to do so again.
“We increased the amount this year,” Busard explained. “We used to give them $1,000 but this year we gave them $2,000 because everything has gone up (in cost).”
Bustard said the donations will help fund Cadet Corps programs and activities. Local cadet representatives said they were thankful for the support.

“We are very grateful,” said Capt. Russell Barton with the Prince Albert Army Cadets (390 RCACC). “The Legion has been a long time sponsor of the Army Cadets here in Prince Albert. This is a continuation of their sponsorship and we partner with them in the poppy campaign, parade, decoration day, Remembrance Day. The Legion is very generous in making this donation and for that we are very grateful.”
Barton said they appreciated the support from the Legion. He added that the donation “will be used for extra training, extra equipment and to enhance the cadet experience.”
Representatives from other local cadet corps were just as grateful.
“Tonight, it has been an honour to be here to receive the cheque from the Legion,” said Capt Clayton Letendre, Commanding Officer of the Air Cadet Squad 38 Prince Albert. ” We used these funds for all the extra curricular activities we do with the cadets. We buy special equipment for marksmanship, for outings and swimming.”

“It is an immense honour to be here,” added Lt. Joceline Mazurkewich of the Prince Albert Navy League Cadets. “We are a non-profit organization so we rely solely on donations and sponsorships from great organizations like the Legion for our funding. We assist them as we can in Remembrance Day, the poppy campaign and so on.”
The officers expressed their gratitude to the legion for supporting their organizations.
