For the first time in its history the Prince Albert Golf and Curling Club has a title sponsor with Lakeland Towing making a “significant” monetary contribution for the naming rights to the organization.
“We have a sponsorship package that we pass out each fall,” explained board member Pat Bibby at a press conference held outside the facility on Thursday. “There are different levels of sponsorship available and one of our board members approached them and things fell into place.”
To now be known as the Lakeland Towing Golf and Curling Event Centre at the Prince Albert Golf and Curling Club for at least the next five years the owners of Lakeland Towing – Mike and Deanna Schroeder – were quite reserved in explaining their involvement with the rebrand.
“We were looking for ways to give back to the community and this was presented to me,” stated Mike, simply, when asked why this organization and why now.
“This helps look after our organization,” added Kelly Timmerman, another board member that was present for the unveiling of the name change. “Community involvement is high on the list for everyone.”
The Golf and Curling Club is an aging facility that is requiring numerous upgrades to move into the future. Bibby acknowledged that the board of directors will be working closely with the Schroeders to ensure that the money they have provided is put to good use.
While not tipping their hand, the Schroeders also indicated that this might be just the start of their involvement in community projects.
The Lakeland Towing Golf and Curling Event Centre is located in the 900 block of 22nd Street East and is part of the complex that also features Cooke Municpal Golf Course and Darcy’s Pro Shop. The event centre has an area that features eight sheets of ice for curling in the winter and golf cart storage and pickleball courts in the summer along with a restaurant (Rock & Iron Sports Bar) and several rooms that can be used for meetings and other gatherings.
There are a number of other sponsorship opportunities available and Bibby says they will always be looking, and hoping, for other businesses or individuals to support the organization. More information on ways to provide assistance can be obtained by calling the office at 306-765-5201.
