The Lac La Ronge Indian Band (LLRIB) announced Korrie Ratt, as the successful candidate in the Tuesday, Aug. 19 Sucker River by-election, to become the LLRIB Councillor for Sucker River Ratt received 69 votes (22 online and 47 in person) with a voter turnout rate of 49 percent, according to a LLRIB news release from Aug. 20.
Mary Veuillot, received 54 votes (11 online and 43 in person) and Larry McKenzie received 30 votes (3 online and 27 in person).
“This is an exciting time for the community, and I look forward to working with Councillor Ratt in serving our members,” Chief Tammy Cook-Searson said in the press release. “I also want to sincerely thank Mary Vauilliot and Larry McKenzie for stepping forward as candidates. Running for leadership takes courage and dedication, and your efforts are appreciated. Finally, I want to thank every member who cast a ballot – your voice makes our democracy strong,”
The by-election was held when former Councillor Devin Bernatchez, left the position.
