Children in Prince Albert and area will once again have the opportunity to discover and develop their acting skills during Make-A-Scene Saturday with Adreanna Gareau.
The free event runs every Saturday from March 7 to June 20 at the Prince Albert Public Library for kids ages 7-15.
“I have been doing workshops for so many years now and kids always get a lot out of it,” said Gareau, who is facilitating the Make-A-Scene workshop. “I think that learning the skills like theatre and improv are skills that you can over into every day lives.”
Gareau said the workshop is a good confident booster. Students learn how to be present, how to engage in good team work and good storytelling, and how to speak effectively.
“There is good practical application to be learnt at the end of the workshop,” she said.
Gareau said the goal is also to have fun, and fill a demand in the community.
She said money should not be a barrier to anyone who wants to take up a profession in any of the arts field, hence this arts session for kids is free.
“I think arts should be accessible to everyone, so I’m really grateful I got this grant and I am really able to give this workshop and the kids can just come without having to pay,” Gareau said.
The pilot program of this event was created last year and recorded significant success with more than 60 children in attendance.
Gareau said there is still space in this year’s workshop. Children can register through the group’s website, Facebook page, or by calling the Prince Albert Public Library.
“If that is not possible, you can just drop in  and check out what it’s all about,” she added.
This event is brought to the kids courtesy of the SK Arts, Artist in Community Initiative. The Workshop will comprise of 12 students for each age group with the focus on acting, improv,  story telling and theatre.
Kids ages seven to 11 will have their session or workshop from 1 p.m.to 2:30 p.m. while kids from age 12 – 15 will have their session from 3 p.m. – 5 p.m.
The kids do not need to attend all the sessions. It’s subject to their convenience.
“Its  a low pressure environment,” Gareau said. “its just a lot of fun so I will encourage anyone who has ever had any  kind of interest in theatre to feel free to come out.”
She also said she appreciated the Prince Albert parents and groups like the library for partnering with her and making this possible for the kids.
