A 50-year-old man who was originally transported to Victoria Hospital after being assaulted on the 1000 Block of 17th Street West in Prince Albert has died at Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon.
The Saskatchewan Coroner’s Service notified the Prince Albert Police Service of the man’s death on Sunday. The Coroner’s Service was advised by family members that the male had been involved in a physical altercation on Mar. 29.
As a result, the Prince Albert Police Service Major Crimes Unit, in conjunction with the Saskatchewan Coroner’s Service, has started an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the man’s death.
An autopsy was conducted on Tuesday to assist in determining the cause of death. At the request of the family, the name of the deceased will not be released at this time.
On Mar. 29 at around 7:20 p.m., the Prince Albert Police Service responded to a residence in the 1000 Block of 17th Street West in Prince Albert for a report of an assault. On arrival officers located an injured man, who had been involved in an altercation with another individual known to him.
The man was conscious and transported to Victoria Hospital by Parkland Ambulance for treatment of injuries, including bleeding from the nose and mouth. The male left Victoria Hospital prior to being seen by a doctor.
On Apr. 2, the male returned to Victoria Hospital, where he received treatment before being transferred to Royal University Hospital for further care. He later died at the hospital.
The investigation remains ongoing. Police do not believe there is any risk to the public in relation to this incident.
