Integrated health centre patients and residents return to Shellbrook

After the evacuation order for the RM of Shellbrook was lifted, patients have begun the process of returning to the Parkland Integrated Health Centre.

“Patient safety will always be our top priority, and we would like to thank our patients, residents and their families for their understanding and patience during the evacuation,” said Derek Miller, Chief Operating Officer of the SHA in a press release. “We are grateful to our staff and physicians for their collaboration and care throughout the evacuation process.”

On Friday May 29, the Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) pre-emptively evacuated 53 residents and patients due to wildfire risk from the ongoing Lobstick fire and transferred them to facilities in Prince Albert, Melfort, Tisdale, Unity and Porcupine Plain.

Patients, residents and their families will be informed about specifics for repatriation to the Parkland Integrated Health Centre. Transfers began Tuesday and are expected to finish by Wednesday.

“Thankfully, the immediate risk presented to the community was avoided,” Miller said. “We are grateful for the efforts of our partners, including the Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency in coordinating a robust response to wildfire risk in the area.”
