After six years in La Ronge, Kevin Kaminski is looking forward to another three.

The La Ronge Ice Wolves head coach and GM signed a three year contract extension in May, which will see him continue with the club through the 2027-28 season.

The former SJHL coach of the year said he’s happy to stay up north.

“It feels great to be back with the Ice Wolves organization,” Kaminski said in a press release. “Signing this new contract adds some security, and after six years in La Ronge, it truly feels like home.”

Kaminski joined the Ice Wolves in 2019-20 and led the team to a third place finish in a tough Sherwood Division where all four teams made the playoffs. The club earned the fifth seed and were tied 2-2 in their first round match-up with Yorkton before the playoffs were cancelled due to COVID.

The season marked a 46-point improvement for La Ronge, and earned Kaminski coach of the year honours.

Last year the team missed the playoffs by one point, but the Ice Wolves were happy with the team’s resilience and competitive spirit.

“We’re thrilled to have Kevin continue leading this program,” reads a statement issued by the Ice Wolves. “His passion, experience, and relentless work ethic have elevated our culture on and off the ice.”

Kaminski said the goal is to help the organization take another step in its development. That means regularly making the playoffs as one of the top four seeds.

“We’ve worked hard to build a strong culture, and I believe we’ve made some good strides,” Kaminski said. “The guys understand what it takes to compete with the top teams in the league—we’ve had some great battles, and we’re ready to take that next step.

“We’re so excited for a new era of Ice Wolves hockey—one where we’re not only competitive on the ice, but active and present in the community,” he added. “The guys are fired up, and we’re ready to build that fan base back up and give La Ronge something to be proud of.”

The 2025-26 SJHL schedule will be released in the coming weeks.
